Try new things
A new school year means a new opportunity to expand your horizons. Whether it's starting small by trying a new lunch at the cafeteria, or getting creative with watercolors when you usually draw with colored pencils, it's a great time to try something new!
Make new friends - and cherish the old
Cultivating new friendships and nurturing old ones means developing a support system that will make the school year even better. Invite your besties over for a sleepover on the weekend, or learn something new about a peer while taking the bus. GOTR practice is a wonderful way to bond with new friends and cheer each other on!
Be a good friend to others
They call it the "golden rule": Do unto others as you wish them to do unto you. In other words, treat others the way you want to be treated! Gently remind others it's not okay to be mean to others, or simply say, "I understand you're frustrated, but let's not talk poorly about [name]. Would we want someone talking about us this way?" This positive and caring mindset will carry you into success and compassion in all aspects of life.
Get organized
Nothing is worse than folders and binders exploding at the seams! Be sure to enter the school year with labeled materials if you can. Another great way to stay organized is to pick out your outfit for the following day the night before. Set it aside and sleep tight knowing that in the morning, you're good to GOTR!
Make a list of things you're excited for
We know that GOTR practice is high on that list, but truth be told, there's so much to be excited for! Field trips, art class, gym class, recess, spirit week, picture day, those little toasty pizza sticks at lunch... we're smiling from ear to ear just thinking about it!
Then, once it happens, write a journal entry about your experience! Writing is a great way to center the mind and reset after a fun day.
Try your best
Remember that trying your best this school year is the most important thing. Can't solve a math problem, or having trouble getting started on that book report? Do the best you can, and know that when you give something you're best effort, it's enough.
Ask for help
Starting a new school year can be overwhelming. It's okay to ask for help! Just like you're a good friend to others, know that your friends are there for you, too. Parents, guardians, teachers, grandparents, siblings, and GOTR coaches are all there for you whether you're struggling in the classroom, with your mental health, or with your friendships.
Get involved
Clubs, sports, and after school programs (like GOTR!) are an excellent way to get involved with your school. When you have fun outside of the classroom and participate in joyful movement, your focus will be laser sharp!
Parents - this back-to-school tip applies to you, too! You can get involved with GOTR and watch your child excel knowing you support their confidence journey! For the full list of ways to get involved with us, visit www.gotr-worc.org/volunteer.
